Ok here goes... It seems that I am
living two lives. In one life I am Svein Engelsgjerd, farmer and a
walking plauge that contaminate my enviroment. I have a social security
number I play my taxes and I even carry out my garbage. The other life
is lived in computers where I go by the alias Waxhead and are guilty of
writing a few useful software tools that might be handy every now and
then. None of these lives have a future I assume but I'm doing my best
go get by :)
Ok so my real name is as I said Svein Engelsgjerd, I was born
15.Dec 1977 and I am living in the western regions of Norway. It's
really not much more to say about that so I just stop this introduction
right here.
Interests:
I have several interests, but
some things is a bit more facinating than other things and that include
computers, music, mechanics, astronomy and women in particular.
When it comes to astronomy I'm not the kind of guy who memorize every
single location of stars and remember a lot of boring numbers but I
find it amusing to watch the stars on a clear night and I also enjoy
reading about how (they think) things work in outer space.
Back on earth I enjoy full moon nights the most. I like the eerie but
at the same time calming feel you get when the moon casts it magical
blue light over the landscape and the shadows plays a few tricks with
your mind. It can be real relaxing to get away from it all and take a
little walk in the moonshine.
I have always found stuff with moving parts very facinating. I have
since I was a little kid always had a interest for opening stuff to
figure out how it works and if it's broken I usualy figure out some
(often bizarre) way to fix it.
I
have been
interested in computers since i first saw a program called 'datastart'
on
NRK in Norway. I can't remember how old I was then but that was what
ignited my interest for computers. Some years later I got my first
computer; the legendary Commodore 64 with amazing 38911 basic bytes
free ;-). Those days computer programs was writen to be efficent.
Surely todays programmers have a lot to learn from the old scool.
Anyway things evolved and I got my Amiga 500 who was almost a religion
for most of it's users (including me). It's definitively the computer I
have had most fun with and probably the computer that was exposed to
most hacks and upgrades ;-) The Amiga was way ahead of it's time in
respect to operatingsystem and hardware - sadly to few realized the
potential in the operatingsystem and it was often labeled as a
gamesmachine even tough it was not. Later in 2000 i did (finaly)
upgrade to a
standard PC clone. Since I've done much programming on the Amiga
(Amos, E
and some assembler) I was eager
to do some programming on the Win32 platform and I started with C as
the language of choise. It's hard to learn ... or perhaps I should say
get used to; but once you got the hang of it you never want to switch
to something else. Well I've always
learned most things by myself with the help of some documentation
and some (strange) people out there :-)
I use the LccWin32 development system by Q software
solutions
who IMHO
must be the most kick ass compiler package available!.
Since I've been a Amiga enthusiast I started making music
using
the
legendary ProTracker and have now moved on to ModPlug (OpenMPT). I
usualy make music that sounds quite diffrent than most other pieces of
music out there. As a musician I'm self-taught and plays the following
instruments:
Willow-flute (known as Seljefløyte in Norway), Mouth-harp
(Munnharpe), Guitar (very poor) and keyboard (also very poor).
Also for as long as I can remember I've been a fan of old classic
Donald Comics and cartoons (1940-1950 style timeline). I have quite a
bunch of Donald comics that I have saved since I was a little kid. I
have to say that I'm most impressed by the drawing style of Carl Barks,
Al Taliaferro and ofcourse
Keno Don Rosa. When
it comes to cartoons I'm a huge fan of Goofy, Roadrunner,
Tom&Jerry
and last but not least Daffy Duck. When it comes to modern cartoons I
think The Simpsons and Futurama is great fun.
Work:
In addition to running my own farm I started working for Elmag
Instrument A/S in 1999. I mostly worked with assembling 21" CRT
monitors until the product was discontinued. Elmag Instrument was
accuired by Hatteland and renamed Hatteland Assembly. A while later
we moved
to a new production facillity where I worked for a long time with
mostly preparing parts for the 23" display. After a while my
main job consisted
mainly of assembling a few models of the 23" displays.
I also worked a bit with receipt of goods at the warehouse (roughly 6
months). When I returned to display production I was after some brief
time put on a special project where I worked with some special oil /
fluid pressure alarm systems for offshore usage. At that time it was
planned that this would be a own production line, but this never
happened. Well I moved back to display production again for some time
before I was put on yet another project called Autostore.
In march 2007 the display and assembly section was working at the time
was accuired by Ferd. In Januar 2008 JHC who is responsible for
the Autostore project wanted me to work directly for them instead and
this is where I currently work.
For three years now I have worked mostly independent and last year there have been a bit of moving stuff around.
There is a lot I have to cope with including (but far from
limited to) assembling, testing, repairs, a bit developement stuff and
general production.
I'm a very independent person of nature and I also have a (bad?) habitt
of beeing very direct with people regardless of their position. This
can both be a strength and a weakness. After I moved from the display
division to Autostore I also learned a
important lesson about people. I realized that in particular one person
I belived it would be a relief to "get rid off" (even tough this person
means a lot to me) is actually the person
I miss the most of all those I worked with. Just another proof that
life is really strange sometimes! ;)
I also have a drivers licence for almost everything that run on wheels
and I usualy get used to new vehicles very fast. I have also driven a
lot of different cars, motorcycles, trucks, tractors and a few
forklifts. My friends often describe me as a skilled (but insane)
driver. ;)
